Lord Vinayagar idol desecreated in Villupur

Villuppuram, Dec 8: Tension prevailed in this town of Tamil Naduas a stone idol of Lord Vinayagar installed in front of SankarapuramTaluk Office near here was found damaged this morning.

Police said some notices recovered from the site claimed the 1.5ft high idol was damaged in retaliation to the desecration of Periyarand Ambedkar statues.

It was suspected to be the handiwork of Dravidar Kazhagam activists.

Following the incident, general public and activists of politicalparties resorted to roadblockades protesting against the incident.

As many as 75 people, led by former Panchayat PresidentKrishnasamy blocked roads demanding arrest of the culprits involved inthe incident.

The DMK and AIADMK volunteers also organised seperate road blockades to condemn the incident.

Heavy police force has been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident.
