Kanu Sanyal released after detainment en route to Singur
Barrackpore, Dec 8 (UNI) Veteran CPI(ML) leader Kanu Sanyal and his three associates, who were detained by police at Nawabgunj outpost in North 24 Parganas on way to Singur today, were released, official sources here said.
The CPI(ML) leader, who was in the forefront of agrarian movement like Naxalbari Farmers' movement of the 1960's, was on way to the ferryghat here at Manirampur.
Sanyal reached here last night and proceeded with three others to cross the Hooghly river on way to Singur in Hooghly district. But the police, which had prior information, stopped him.
The veteran Naxalite leader was prevented from reaching Singur for joining the peasants' families.
Later, police took him to a Nona Chandanpukur house here under Titagarh police station from where he had started his journey towards Singur in the morning after a night stay.
Though Mr Sanyal was prevented from talking to media during his confinement, he vehemently condemned the police action after his release this evening and said, '' West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is afraid of the people's movement on Singur issue. '' He said, ''The people of West Bengal could realise that the Chief Minister has made a blueprint to allow invasion of imperialists through globalisation in West Bengal keeping Singur issue alive. '' Mr Sanyal alleged that police had confined him for hours without any official warrant and acted on the whims of the Chief Minister violating the fundamental rights of the citizens.
