Guj HC disposes off victims' plea for further CBI probe

Ahmedabad, Dec 8 (UNI) The Gujarat High Court today dismissed an application, pleading for further investigations by the CBI into the case of recovery of skeletal remains near Panderwada in December last year.

The matter had been investigated by the CBI on an earlier order of the Court and the investigating agency had filed a report before it on December 6.

But today, the petitioners, who are post-Godhra riot victims, in a plea had called for further investigations into the matter by the CBI.

Disposing off their plea, Justice Kalpesh Jhaveri refused to transfer the case to the CBI for further investigations.

He said as the CBI has not filed any application to do so, the application did not stand ground. The CBI counsel said as he did not have any instructions to file a plea, he did not do so.

The application had been filed by among others, one Ameenabibi, whose son was killed in the Pandarwada massacre.

The CBI on Wednesday had submitted a report on tests conducted by a Hyderabad-based laboratory on the skeletal remains, according to which six of the 21 or 22 victims, whose remains were allegedly found buried, had been identified.

In another matter relating to the complaint by Lunavada authorities against social activist Raees Khan and 10 others, for ''illegal digging'' at a burial ground, the Court posted the matter for hearing on February 7.
