Four Guru Satam gangsters remanded to police custody till Dec 19

Mumbai, Dec 8 (UNI) A local court today remanded four associates of of underworld don Guru Satam to police custody till December 19, for allegedly demanding Rs five lakh as extortion money from a builder in western suburbs here last month.

Moving the remand application, public prosecutor Tahir Trambakwal said the accused had made calls to the builder, demanded Rs five lakh as extortion money and threatened him of dire consequences, if he refused to pay the amount. For thorough investigations, custodial interrogation of accused was required.

Earlier, defence counsels had prayed for short remand to their clients.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S Y Shisode remanded Bhushan Satam, son of Guru Satam, Hemant Raut, Naresh Parab and Chandrashekar Mallupa Rao alias Raju Poojari to police custody till December 19. However, court gave permission to provide home food to the accused.

The accused were arrested in a joint operation of the Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) and Mumbai Police Crime Branch yesterday from Parel in south central Mumbai for demanding Rs five lakh as extortion money from the bulider.

In this case Guru Satam and two others were shown absconding.

They were booked under section 387 (extortion) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
