FDCI announces National Design Talent Contest
Mumbai, Dec 8: After an overwhelming response to the first editionof the National Design Talent contest, the Fashion Design Council ofIndia-in its quest to find nurture and develop young talent, hasannounced the second edition of the contest.
This competition is a talent search in the field of design acrossleading design schools in India and the preliminary members of theFDCI. The contest will culminate with the winners getting anopportunity to showcase and be a part of the World of Wearable Artsshow/awards (WOW) to be held in New Zealand in 2007, a release hereyesterday said.
Based on the participation received, a jury will shortlistapplicants who will get a chance to showcase their work at a show inNew Delhi and at the WOW show in New Zealand. The shortlistedapplicants will be further judged and shortlisted by the WOW jury toarrive at the final list of 3 winners. The winners will get a free stayand will travel to the WOW show in New Zealand. They will also beawarded a cash prize of Rs 30,000 each by the FDCI.
Announcing the National Design Talent Contest, FDCI (India)Director General Rathi Vinay Jha said ''In its endeavour to promoteyoung talent in India, FDCI is proud to be associated with the World ofWearable Arts show/awards yet again. This year one faculty member of aprestigious Fashion design institute will also get an opportunity tovisit New Zealand's world renowned WOW show/awards.'' This will givethem an opportunity to witness this out-of-the-box creative event firsthand, he added.
WOW is an avante-garde event where participants are using thehuman body as the canvas.It is about getting away from the commercialaspects of fashion and to express 'fashion' with complete freedom.
