Extortion case registered against Guru Satam

Mumbai, Dec 8: The police have registered a case againstunderworld don Guru Satam and two others for demanding Rs five lakhextortion money from a builder at Malad in western suburbs.

The case against Satam, former close associate of underworld donChhota Rajan, and his two aides was registered yesterday for allegedlydemanding Rs five lakh from a 51-year-old Malad-based builder andthreatening him with dire consequences if he refused to comply withtheir demands, police said here today.

The accused are absconding.

Dindoshi police have forwarded the case to Anti-Extortion Cell for further investigations.

Gurunath Narhari 'Guru' Satam threatened a number of Bollywoodfilm personalities and expanded his extortion activities in themetropolis, police sources said.

After his spat with Dawood Ibrahim, Satam joined hands with ChhotaRajan and became a force to reckon with in the underworld. He wasallegedly responsible for arranging the killing of labour leader DattaSamant in 1997.

Meanwhile, in a joint operation of the Anti-Extortion Cell andCrime Branch of Mumbai police five members of his gang including hisson Bhushan Satam, were arrested in another extortion case yesterday.

The other gangsters taken into custody included Hemant Raut, Naresh Parab, Chandra Anna alias Raju Pujari and Vilas.
