DGP rebuts allegations of LU Vice Chancellor
Lucknow, Dec 8 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Bua Singh today contradicted the allegations of Lucknow University Vice Chancellor R P Singh about the student anarchy in the state saying the police have always assisted the LU authorities in law and order problem.
Talking to reporters here tonight, Mr Singh said the VC had never talked about the poor law and order situation in LU and all of a sudden blaming the UP police was unwarranted.
''It is the duty of the university authorities to take decision on day to day activities in the LU and not the police'', he said adding adequate police force has been provided in all the universities on their demand.
The DGP took strong exception to the VC's statement on bad law and order situation in UP and said, ''It is a subject of the state and VC should only be concerned about his university.'' Admitting the VC's decision to close down the university for an indefinite period and vacating the hostels, he stated the district police would give all its assistance to university to vacate the hostel.
The DGP also ruffed up the VC's charges on providing security cover to some student leaders and transfer of some police officials in the state capital. ''It is the sole discretion of the government to whom to give the security and transfer the police officials,'' he said.
