DD to have four more news bulletins in Assamese

New Delhi, Dec 8 (UNI) The Prasar Bharti plans to start four more news bulletins in Assamese of 10 minutes duration each.

These bulletins will be telecast at 0700 hrs, 1100 hrs, 1730 hrs and 2100 hrs, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told the Lok Sabha today in a written reply to a question.

Doordarshan Guwahati was already telecasting two news bulletins in the language.

Mr Dasmunsi said there was also a plan to advance the existing news bulletins of 10 minutes from 0900 hrs to 8.45 hrs.

North-east package: Replying to another question, Mr Dasmunsi said the government had decided to include a North-East package for All India Radio and Doordarshan in the Eleventh Plan.

He said a total of Rs 405 Crore had been sanctioned to the AIR and DD for the purpose.

Community Radio: The Minister said that so far, five community radio stations had been set up in the North East---two in Meghalaya, two in Nagaland and one in Mizoram.

He said the government had liberalised the policy for grant of permission for setting up community radio in respect of non-profit organisations, state agricultural universities, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, registered societies and autonomous bodies and public trusts registered under the Societies Act etc.
