CPWD to construct houses for Tsunami affected people
New Delhi, Dec 8 (UNI) The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has started construction of houses for the benefit of Tsunami affected people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
He said no work has been taken up by CPWD in Tamil Nadu.
He said the CPWD will construct a total of 7966 houses spread over nine locations in Andaman and Nicobar Islands with Car Nicobar accounting for the highest number of houses at 3941 houses. Great Nicobar Islands stood second with 995 houses and Hut Bay comes third with 965 houses.
The total project cost has now been estimated at Rs 1221 crores, he added.
