Coal Consumers'Association welcomes Apex court's ruling
Kolkata, Dec 08 (UNI) Coal Consumers' Association of India today heartily welcomed the Supreme Court's ruling in favour of halting and discontinuing the sale of Coal through e-auction.
Introduction of e-auction by Coal India Limited in December 2004 for various coal consumers was "unwarranted" and resulting in the suffering of genuine consumers for want of coal which in turn led to closure of many industries besides rendering a large number of workers jobless,Coal Consumers'Association President Vishambar Saran in a statement here today said.
Welcoming the Supreme Court judgement by terming it as a 'Welcome step', the Association felt that it would bring a wider ramification for the industry as a whole.Coal consumers hoped that Coal India would soon restore supply to all genuine consumers at the notified prices announced by them.
He said Coal India should also consider finding mutually acceptable solutions for smooth supply of coal and meet the demand of even non-linked consumers keeping in mind its availability.
