BJP MLA murder case: HC rejects Afzal's bail application

Allahabad, Dec 8 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court today rejected the bail application of Samajwadi Party MP Afzal Ansari in connection with the BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai murder case.

Justice Poonam Srivastava rejected the bail after no adequate reason for granting it was found.

Afzal had filed the bail application in the Allahabad HC, when it was rejected by the Ghazipur Sessions Court. The bail application of Mukhtar Ansari, MLA and brother of Afzal is already pending before the Court.

Krishnanad Rai, an MLA from Mohammadabad constituency in Ghazipur district, and his seven supporters were shot dead in broad daylight here on November 29, 2005.

They were ambushed near the Ballia-Ghazipur border by several motorcycle-borne miscreants armed with sophisticated weapons.

Later, an FIR was lodged against 10 people including Mukhtar, Afzal and notorious east UP gangster Munna Bajrangi in connection with the killing. Afzal had surrendered in the court on December 8 last.
