5 sentenced to 10-year jail for smuggling poppy husk

Kaithal, Dec 8 (UNI) A local court today sentenced five persons to ten-year rigorous imprisonment for smuggling poppy husk.

Convicting them under section 15 of the NDPS Act, Special Judge Neelima Shangla also fined them Rs 100000 each.

Accused Devinder Singh, Palvinder Singh, Mukhtiar Singh, Sukhvinder Singh and Jasbir Singh were carrying 65 kg poppy husk in a Tata Sumo from Uttar Pardesh to Kaithal on September 23, 2002.

The court further ordered that in default of payment of fine accused would under go further imprisonment of 3 years each.
