Congress triumphs at Chimur by-election
Mumbai, Dec 7: Vijay Wadettiwar (Cong) today won the Chimur assembly by-election in Maharashtra, defeating his nearest BJP rival Ramesh Gajbe by a margin of 19744 votes.
Mr Wadettiwar secured 73,832 while Dr Gajbe polled 54,088 votes.
A loyalist of Maharashtra Revenue minister Narayan Rane, Mr Wadettiwar was earlier elected from the same constituency on a Shiv Sena ticket.
He had resigned from the Assembly to join the Congress, following in the foot steps of his political mentor.
