Sidhu will be star campaigner in Punjab: BJP
New Delhi, Dec 6: The BJP today said Former MP Navjot Singh Sidhu will appeal against the decision of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the 18-year-old road rage case and would be a star campaigner for the party in the coming Assembly elections in Punjab.
BJP Parliamentary Party Spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said the party has nothing to say on the decision of the High Court sentencing the former cricketer to three-year imprisonment.
Mr Sidhu was absolved of the charge in the trial court but was a victim of the Congress-ruled state government, he alleged.
''His was no heinous crime and a cold blooded murder but an incident of road rage when he was not even a member of our party,'' Mr Malhotra said, adding, ''We will not treat him as a tainted MP.'' Former BJP President M Venkaiah Naidu said he did not feel there was anything wrong with the BJP using Mr Sidhu for campaigning in Punjab elections.
Soon after his conviction, Mr Sidhu had quit the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat and there was no harm in using him for campaign purposes, he added.
