Navjot Singh Sidhu convicted for three years
New Delhi, Dec 6: Former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu gets three years imprisonment for involvemnet in a 1988 homicide case.
However, the charges have been suspended till January 31st, 2007 and Sidhu will not be arrested immediately.
A fine of one lakh Rupees has been imposed on him.
A division bench comprising Justices Mehtab Singh Gill and Baldev Singh, however, suspended the sentence till January 31 to enable Sidhu to appeal in the Supreme Court.
The bench has also directed Sidhu to appear before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Chandigarh, to furnish a bail bond of Rs one lakh on December eight.
The High Court had on December one, found the 43-year-old Sidhu guilty under section 304-Part-II of IPC for committing culpable homicide not amounting to murder, overturning his acquittal by a lower court.
Sidhu, a star BJP parliamentarian, quit his Lok Sabha seat from Amritsar following his conviction on moral grounds.
