Wushu team for Asian Games announced

Lucknow, Dec 5 (UNI) Wushu Association of India (WAI) today announced the five-member Indian team, including officials, for the 15th Asian Games underway at Doha, Qatar.

The wushu competition would be held between December 10 and 15, WAI general secretary Anand Kacker said here today.

The contingent comprises Naresh Sharma (Delhi), Bimoljit Singh (CRPF), O Joy Singh (CRPF), Mohd Islamuddin (Assam Rifles, coach) and Manish Kacker (Lucknow, manager).

The Association had organised an extensive coaching camp at Patiala from October 23 to November 30, where 14 wushuists and 2 international coaches trained the prospective Indian team.

Later, the union ministry of sports selected 3 players and 2 officials for the national squad.

Indian wushu team is participating in the wushu event for the first time, since the Asian Games wushu competition was introduced in 1990. The team leaves for Doha on December 7.
