Voting in Chamundeshwari assembly by-poll put at 66.31 per cent
Mysore, Dec 5 (UNI) The by-poll held for Chamundeshwari assembly segment saw 66.31 per cent of little over 3.68 lakh voters exercise their franchise.
Election Commission sources said out of total 3,68,689 voters, 2,44,491 cast their franchise yesterday. Among them 1,28,927 were men and the remaining women. The counting of votes would take place on December seven.
The electronic voting machines used in the by-poll reached Maharani College from the 346 polling booths last night. They had been kept under heavy security.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of Congress and Shivabasappa of Janata Dal (S) are involved in a straight fight.
The 12 others in fray include Janata Dal (U) candidate A S Guruswamy, Samajwadi Party nominee B Karunakaran and ten independents.
The polling for high profile by-election, which saw the Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and top leaders of Congress camp in the city for two weeks, went off peacefully, due to elaborate measures taken by the Election Commission.
