SSS demands 25 per cent reservation for muslims in Jharkhand

Jamshedpur, Dec 5 (UNI) The Secular Social Organisation(SSS) today demanded 25 per cent reservation for muslims in Jharkhand under the recommendations of Sachchar Committee, which submitted its report on the status of the minorities to the UPA government at the Centre.

SSS national president Nasar Firdausi told reporters that the organisation would sit on a dharna and demonstrate at the East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner's office here to press thier demands.

In his letters to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Dr Firdausi said, '' The report should be placed in the House as the government is committted to the uplift of the minorites and decide effective ways and means to bring the Muslim community at par with other communites of the land in educational and economical status. '' Dr Firdausi regretted that the community was being used as the vote bank by all the political parties ignoring the development of the community.

He claimed that the muslims could decide the fate of political scenario in the country and should get a fair treatment from all the political parties and the government.

He said the recommendation of the Rajender Sachchar Committee should be implemented not only in Jharkhand but other states also and he was in touch with the MPs and MLAs belonging to the minority community to exert pressure on the Centre for a nationwide implementation of the recommendation.

Dr Firdausi also demanded to bring a legislation to constitute ''Muslim regiment'' in the Army on the line ''Gorkha regiment''.

He also caled for forming an Urdu academy and providing land in subsidy to the Waqf board, Madrasa board and Minority financial corporation in Jharkhand.

Dr Firdausi said the SSS would launch statewide one day dharna and agitation in December to press their demands and also to demonstrate before the Jharkhand Assembly for the implementation of the Sachchar Committee report.
