Snowfall in Himalayas bring chill and fog to UP

Lucknow, Dec 5 (UNI) Fresh snowfall in the higher reaches of the Himalayan range in Uttaranchal has brought a chill and fog spell to Uttar Pradesh.

The morning and evening fog has started to disrupt traffic, both roads and railways, especially in western UP viz Bareilly, Moradabad, Badaun and Pilibhit.

Long distance trains are running late by one to three hrs, official sources said here today.

Meanwhile, a man died due to cold weather in Lalitpur district, taking the toll to nine in UP so far.

According to met office here, the night temperature fell much below normal in several divisions including Gorakhpur and Allahabad.

Sultanpur recorded the lowest temperature in UP at 9 degrees Celsius, which was one degree below normal.

Lucknow recorded a minimum temperature of 11 degrees, followed by Gorakhpur and Allahabad 10 each, Varanasi and Gorakhpur 12 each, Bahraich 13, Bareilly and Agra 15 each.

In the next 24 hrs, several places are expected to experience light rainfall, including Bareilly, Moradabad, Agra and Meerut divisions, and Jhansi, Jalaun, Lalitpur, Farrukhabad and Etawah districts.
