Shibu Soren gets life term in Jha murder case
New Delhi, Dec 5 (UNI) For the first time in the history of independent India, a sitting Lok Sabha member and a three-time Union Minister was today sentenced to life imprisonment when a special CBI court handed down the severe punishment to Shibu Soren in the Shashinath Jha murder case, causing major embarrassment to the UPA government.
Special CBI judge B R Kedia also asked the JMM chief to cough up Rs five lakh as compensation for Jha's family.
Shashinath Jha was murdered in 1994 by Nandkishore Mehta on Shibu's instructions.
The court also handed down life imprisonment to four other convicts, including Mehta, in the case.
The court had held Soren ... picking up from para five, line one of DI 29, LAW-SHIBU-LIFE IMPRISONMENT.
