Provide equal retirement benefits to RRB employees : MPs

New Delhi, Dec 5 (UNI) A Telugu Desam MP today strongly pleaded in Rajya Sabha for providing pension and retirement benefits for employees of Regional Rural Banks (RRB) on par with their counterparts in nationalised banks.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Mr C Ramachandraiah said there was wide disparity in the pension and other retirement benefits between RRB and nationalised bank employees, which worked out to Rs 1,000 for RRB employee and Rs 12,000 for the regular banks.

He said the RRB employees were working in the subsidiaries of their nationalised banks in tough village conditions and they deserved better retirement benefits. The Supreme Court had given its orders twice on the issue but the parent banks had ignored it, he noted.

He asked Finance Minister P Chidambaram to end discrimination against the RRBs who had worked hard to improve the infrastructure and economic development in remote rural areas.

Mr Vijaya Raghavan, CPI-M, too associated with Mr Ramachandraiah and demanded the government to issue direction to the banks to equal salary, pension and retirement benefits.
