NLFT militant shot dead in encounter

Agartala, Dec 5 (UNI) Security forces shot dead a National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militant in an encounter at Rainanazirbari under R K Pur Police Station in Tripura's South District today.

Police said when a police party, led by the Pitra Officer in Charge, which had launched a special anti-insurgency drive arrived at the spot, a gang of armed NLFT militants ambushed it resulting in a fierce encounter.

One rebel, identified as Balaram Jamatia (32), was killed on the spot, while other members of the group managed to escape.

There was, however, no casualty or injury on the police side, sources added.

Soon after the incident, police launched a massive search operation in the area to nab the other militants.
