Nearly 200 motorists prosecuted for drunken driving since Dec 1

New Delhi, Dec 5 (UNI) As part of efforts to stop the practice of drinking while driving, the Delhi police have prosecuted nearly 200 drunken drivers since December one.

As part of a special traffic enforcement drive against drunken driving, the Delhi police have prosecuted 191 motorists between December one to four, a release by the Delhi Police said.

Of the motorists prosecuted, 106 were driving two wheelers, 27 were car drivers while 19 were TSR drivers.

While 133 motorists were arrested, vehicles of 81 others were impounded, the release said.

It said the Delhi Traffic police would further intensify enforcement activity against such motorists, who are found driving motor vehicles while drunk.

The Delhi Police is equipped with alcometers to detect violaters of section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which stipulates that any driver who has, in his blood, alcohol exceeding 30 mg per 100 ml of blood detected would be liable for a six month imprisonment or fine upto Rs 2000 for the first offense while for the second offence, if committed within three years of the first offence, he would be liable for a term upto two years or a fine upto Rs 3000.
