More BOPs coming up along NE-Bangla borders

Aizawl, Dec 5 (UNI) The BSF officials today said the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has initiated steps to intensify vigil along the Indo-Bangladesh border in the North Eastern states to check infiltration.

The BSF officials stated that as part of the on-going programme, the ministry had taken steps to reduce the distance between the Border Outposts (BOPs) along Indo-Bangla border.

They said the new BOPs have been constructed in 24 bordering districts of North Eastern states for the purpose.

Besides, the survey for construction of a new fencing on elevated ground along the international border had been completed and the actual work would start early in 2007.

''The existing fencing along the border had become redundant, making the task for the BSF difficult but the situation would ease out after the construction of new fencing,'' they stated.

Though Bangladesh had refused to allow Indian border guards to bring in the floating BOPs to improve patrolling along the riverine border, MHA had a fleet of about 40 speed boats for the same and few more are on cards.
