Gen Rodrigues honours Chandigarh sportspersons

Chandigarh, Dec 6 (UNI) Administrator Chandigarh, Gen (Retd) S F Rodrigues today presented cash awards to 11 outstanding sportspersons and mementoes to three trainers for attaining eminence in different disciplines.

Speaking on the occasion of the sports prize distribution function here today, Gen (Retd) Rodrigues said that the Chandigarh administration had undertaken various initiatives for promoting a greater interest in sports and urged the sportspersons to avail of the opportunities and infrastructure available to excel in their respective disciplines.

Those who received cash awards were Gurnoor Kaur (rowing, Rs 10,000), Pooja Jallan (judo, Rs 5,000), Jagdish Singh (powerlifting, Rs 25,000), Gurinder Singh (powerlifting, Rs 15,000), Saroj Bala (rowing, Rs 10,000), Harveen Sarao (gun shooting, Rs 10,000), Japneet Kaur ( roller skating, Rs 15,000), Shakun Salwan (roller skating, Rs 10,000), Prabhjot Singh (Special Olympics, Rs 10,000), Varun Singla (Special Olympics, Rs 3,000) and Sunil Kumar (athletics, Rs 10,000).

Arvind Sehgal (rowing), Krishan Lal (judo) and Sarabjit Singh (skating) were felicitated as coaches.
