Centre directed to file reply on turban issue

Chandigarh, Dec 5 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court division bench of Chief Justice V K Jain and Justice S S Nijjar today directed the Union Government to file a detailed reply about its comprehensive agenda in regard to protecting the fundamental rights of Indians abroad in the context of the ban imposed on the wearing of turban by the Sikhs students in France schools.

This was ordered during resumed hearing on the writ petition filed by Singh Legal Foundation, Chandigarh through its secretary Hridayal Singh who had sought directions to the Union Government to protect the life and dignity of Indians abroad.

The bench expressed its displesure at the response so far from the Union Government and observed that the issue raised was a serious one and it may have to ask for personal appearance of the Foreign Secretary in case comprehensive, detailed reply to the issue raised in the writ petition was not given before the next hearing on February six.
