Arif booked in conspiracy to eliminate Gujarat Minister

Mumbai, Dec 5 (UNI) Gujarat Police today took into custody Arif Abubkar Sheikh (43) brother-in-law of underworld don Chhota Shakeel from Mumbai police for his alleged involvement in conspiracy to eliminate former Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harin Pandya in early 2003.

Police Sub-Inspector (Crime Branch) Ahmedabad B K Patel requested the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S Y Shisode that they wanted the custody of accused Arif Sheikh for questioning in the murder case of the former Minister in March 2003.

Magistrate Shisode granted transit remand till December seven after taking consent from the officer.

Arif would be produced before the Special Court at Bhadra in Ahmedabad on December seven for further remand. At present, he has been booked under section 120 (b) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) for hatching a conspiracy to eliminate Pandya.

Earlier, Sheikh was sent to Judicial Custody in an extortion case by Magistrate Shisode. Now, Gujarat police will take his custody from jail to take him the state.
