Andaman Islands get new English Daily
Port Blair, Dec 05: A new English daily 'Andaman Chronicle' has hit the stands of Andaman and Nicobar islands today.
''It is a dream come true for me. It will be a non-political newspaper and will focus on giving vent to the people's voices,'' publisher of the daily Denis Giles told UNI here today.
The daily, which was launched last night here, was released by Andaman and Nicobar Cooperative Bank chairman Saroop Lall.
Addressing at the launch ceremony, PIB Media and Communication Officer O N Jaiswal underlined the need for striking a balance while reporting.
'' Any report meant for inclusion should be cross-checked before publishing,'' Mr Jaiswal told the scribes here.
These islands have more than 35 registered newspapers and periodicals with about ten local dailies of which four are published in English.
Mr Giles, who is also the Editor of the newspaper said his daily would give chance to young people so that they could understand learn the nuances of real journalism.
''Journalism should be practiced and should not be only in papers,'' he said.
