Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, Dec 4 (UNI) A wonder tree likely to be 500 years old and buried beneath the Vegavati river sand at Thiruparithikundram near Kancheepuram was found here today.

Official sources said a strange sound was heard while removing the sand from the river and when it was dug further, the 15-foot giant-size tree was found inside.

It is being reported that the villagers in the area tried to cut the tree, but their swords were broken into pieces.

The Village Administrative Offcer(VAO) R Paneerselvam, after hearing the news, rushed to the spot and advised the villagers not to remove the tree.

Mr Paneerselvam informed the matter to the Revenue District Officer(RTO) Sitalaxmi and Tahsildar M Selvaraj. Ms Sitalaxmi and Mr Selvaraj rushed to the spot and enquired about the tree, he added.

He said the gigantic tree had grown from 15 to 50-foot suddenly.

The full height of the tree will be known only when we further unearth the sand, he added.

People living in and around the district are thronging the place to have a glimpse of the tree.
