Chennai, Dec 4 (UNI) Desiya Murpokku Dravidar Kazhagam (DMDK) founder -president, actor Vijaykanth today slammed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for not being resolute on the Mullaperiyar dam issue.

Talking to reporters at the Secretariat here, he wanted to know what stopped the Chief Minister from taking a tough stand as he had done on the Neyveli Lignite Corporation divestment issue.

When Mr Karunanidhi could deliberate with the Prime Minister on the Lankan conflict, he could have done so on the dam too, he said.

On Mr Karunanidhi's remark on Mullaperiyar dam that the 'show has just begun with title credits and why clamour for climax?,' Mr Vijayakanth said the Supreme Court verdict was the 'climax' and wondered what he was going to talk about when Kerala was reiterating that there was no scope to raise the water level of the dam.

Asserting that his prime goal was to capture power in the state, he exuded confidence that the DMDK would be 'holding the reins of power' sooner or later.

Refuting Mr Karunanidhi's claim that states involved in water disputes could not be allocated the portfolio of Water Resources at the Centre, Mr Vijayakanth said when a water-sharing dispute existed between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, Mr V K R V Rao from Andhra was the Water Resources Minister.

'When a person, owning broadcasting business in several states, could be the Communication Minister, is it not possible to secure a portfolio of Water Resources?' he asked.
