Three killed as lorry rams into tea shop

Tiruchirapalli, Dec 4: Three persons were killed on the spot when a speeding lorry rammed into a roadside tea shop at Vathalai village, about 18 km from here tonight.

The victims were having refreshments in the tea shop, when the lorry, which was proceeding to Cauvery River Bed at Thiruvasi, rammed near here, police said.

The bodies were sent to the Government Headquarters Hospital for a post-mortem.

The lorry driver has been arrested.

Agitated over the accident, the villagers resorted to a roadblock demanding action against erring drivers for the frequent accidents in the area. However, senior police officials reached the spot and pacified the agitators. The road blockade was later withdrawn.
