Stock markets flat after a firm start
Mumbai, Dec 4 (UNI) After a firm start, the markets turned weak in the first hour of opening, at the Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange (NSE), traders said.
The S&P Cnx Nifty index at the NSE today once again made a start above the 4000 mark at 4002.40 points. It went up to touch a high of 4015.25, but turned weak due to selling pressure and it was currently trading at 3992.55 points, down by 5.05 points from last week's close of 3997.60 points.
The BSE Sensex which has been a few points away from the 14000 mark, opened at 13846.71 points, went up to touch a high of 13911.64 points, before trading lower at 13828.51 points, down by 16.27 points from it's previous close.
Brokers attributed the nervousness to a weak start in the Asian Markets and lack of follow up support in the heavily weighted shares.
Market has witnessed upward movements in the energy and automobile shares such as Bajaj Auto, Hero Honda, Reliance Energy, followed by brisk buying activities in Banking shares since morning today, brokers said.
The heavily weighted shares such as Infosys, Hind Lever, ITC witnessed a downward trend due to selling pressure, they added.
