Sreelatha wins first M L Vasanthakumari award

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 4 (UNI) Noted film actress and carnatic music exponent Sreelatha Namboodiri has been selected for the first 'M L Vasanthakumari Memorial Music Award', instituted by the 'M L Vasanthakumari Smaraka Sangeetha Sabha'.

The award, which carries a cash prize of Rs 5,001, citation and a plaque, would be presented to her on December 29 at Kadakkavoor by noted film director Sreekumaran Thambi, Sabha director M K Sasikumar and other office bearers told reporters here.

A four-member jury with late film actress Sreevidhya, Vettikavala K N Sasikumar, G Jayaraj and Sabha director M K Sasikumar selected Sreelatha for the award, considering her performance in films and also her knowledge in carnatic music, they added.

The 'M L Vasanthamumari Smaraka Sangeetha Sabha' was founded by late Malayalam actress Sreevidhya for the memory of her mother M L Vasanthakumari, a well-known carnatic singer.
