Sonia slams administration for Ambedkar statue desecration

Written by: Staff

Sultanpur, UP, Dec 4 (UNI) AICC President and Rae Bareli MP Sonia Gandhi today blamed the Kanpur district administration for the desecration of Dr B R Ambedkar's statue recently, which led to large-scale arson in Maharashtra.

Talking to reporters here in the presence of her son and Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi, Ms Gandhi said the Kanpur incident was a fallout of the failure of the administration. She observed the resultant violence in Maharashtra was unfortunate.

The Amethi MP, however, directly blamed the Mulayam Singh Yadav government for the incident.

Maintaining the law and order situations of Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh could not be compared, she said UP had ''nothing like law and order.'' Although, she remained silent on a question on the possible imposition of President's rule in UP.

Rahul ducked a poser on his entry into active politics. Pointing at the AICC President, he said any such decision has to come from the party high command.
