Singur: Cong threatens to launch mass movement

Kolkata, Dec 4: The West Bengal Congress today resolved to launch mass movement for realisation of "just demand" of the farmers at Singur, according to party's state working president Pradip Bhattacharjee.

Addressing a rally of party workers in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue in central Kolkata, he said, "Don't think the Congress is weak. We will prove our mettle on right occasion for realisation of farmers's genuine demand." Mr Bhattacharjee warned the Left parties that the UPA government at the Centre was not at the mercy of others.

He also announced that the party would organise a mass rally in front of the District Magistrate office at Tamluk on December 6 on controversial Singur issue.

To a query about BJP president Rajnath Singh's presence at Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee's fast-unto-death programme in the city today, he said " Congress would not take any dias where BJP leaders take part." Former PCC president Somen Mitra and CLP leader Manas Bhuiya also spoke in the rally.
