Scientists stress upon water harvesting

Aizawl, Dec 04 (UNI) Expressing their concern over the lack of water management in North Eastern states, the scientists have urged the people to help in tackling the acute water shortage problem.

Talking at a seminar on water management here yesterday, Director of North East Regional Institute of Water&Land Management Prof S C Patra said potable water has already posed a serious threat to the NE hill states.

''Nature is kind to the region and there is an abundant rainfall but the people were not aware of the ever increasing drinking water problem,'' Prof Patra said.

He further stressed upon the need to use traditional methods of water harvesting and management.

Inaugurating the seminar, Mizoram governor M M Lakhera said the seminar would come up with a road map towards better water management for the people's benefit.

''Drinking water crisis is the major problem the world is currently experiencin as rain water is not harvested properly. It should not be wasted like this," he said.
