Saturday's bus accident caused by another another driver: Report

Shimla, Dec 4 (UNI) A speeding vehicle coming from the opposite side was the cause of the bus accident near Salogra in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh on Saturday, a report submitted to the state government today said.

Ruling out any ''human error'' by the bus driver, who was killed in the accident, it said rash and negligent driving by the driver of the vehicle coming from the opposite side was the cause of the accident.

The bus driver's attention was diverted due to the speeding of the vehicle coming from the opposite side that caused the accident, the report, prepared by Corporation's Technical General Manager I M Vij and Technical Divisional Manager R K Gupta, said.

The bus driver had an accident free record till now and had been awarded twice for his driving skills, it said.

The report said even the bus involved in the accident had no mechanical fault and had only covered over 2.50 lakh km besides being certified as a safe vehicle for ferrying people.

The Himachal Transport Department had instituted an inquiry to probe the cause of the accident that had claimed the lives of 14 people, besides injuring 28 others.
