Rumours of bombs in schools create panic

Karur, Tamil Nadu, Dec 4 (UNI) Rumours triggered by an anonymous hoax call about bombs and fire breakouts in schools created panic among parents, who rushed to the educational institutions.

The entire town here was agog with rumours of fire breakouts in two schools and a bomb threat in another school. The parents, who were in no mood to listen to anyone, argued with teachers and school managements before leading their children out of the class rooms.

The trouble started in the morning, when an anonymous telephone call to St Antony's Matriculation School at Aandankovil, here warned that a bomb was being planted in the school and it would explode anytime in the morning.

The school authorities alerted the police and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) conducted a thorough check along with sniffer dogs for over an hour.

The squad could not detect any explosive material.

Meanwhile, rumours spread that a fire broke out in Cheran Higher Secondary School at Vennaimadai and in Cheran Elementary School at Ramakrishnapuram. Parents rushed to these schools and took their wards back home.
