Polling to Roing byelection begins on a peaceful note

Itanagar, Dec 4 (UNI) Polling for by-election to Roing assembly constituency began on a peaceful note this morning amidst tight security.

Election office sources said here that polling, which began at 0700 hours, was largely peaceful and there were no reports of any untoward incidents from any parts of the constituency.

Till 0900 hours 23 per cent of total 12,2999 voters exercised their franchise in 37 polling stations to decide the fate of three candidates in the fray, including Dature Miuli of the Congress, Raje Menjo(BJP) and Laeta Umbrey(Independent).

Bypoll for the constituency was necessiated following the resignation of Congress MLA Mukut Mithi after he was appointed as Lt. Governor of Puducherry recently.

Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have been used for voting and counting of votes would be held on December 7, sources informed.
