Malkangiri, Dec 04 (UNI) Life was affected for the third day today in Naxal-dominated Malkangiri district due to the Peoples Guerrilla Army(PGA) Week observed by the Maoists.

The Maoists have put up banners and distributed leaflets in support of their stir throughout tribal areas of Kalimela,Padia, Motu and Chitrokonda areas in Malkangiri district.

Fearing attacks from the left wing ultras, bus operators have decided not to ply their vehicles in the sensitive areas, inconveniencing local tribals.

Several Naxalite pockets wore a deserted look as the Maoists held meetings and appealed to the tribals to join their camps to fight the government.

Apprehending trouble, local businessmen had downed shutters in Kalimela areas. At many places the Naxalites blocked the road by putting logs to obstruct the movement of vehicles.

Sources said despite regular patrolling and combing operation by the state armed and paramilitary forces in sensitive pockets, the radicals have successfully organised meetings to woo the tribals.

The Police said so far no untoward incident had been reported in the district. The police force were, however, kept on high alert anticipating violence and the fierce encounter taking place between Naxalites and police in the Bijapur jungle in Bastar district in Chhatishgarh, just 20 kilometres away from the district headquarters.
