According to a report submitted by MCD Commissioner in a special meeting of the Standing Committee, about 20 acre of MCD land in Najafgarh zone is under encroachment while 16.81 acres is under encroachment in West Zone, followed by Shahdara (South) Zone with 10.257 acres, South zone with 7.028 acre and Rohini with 4.53 acre.

MCD Councillors had favoured freeing the land from encroachment so as to utilise it for the purpose of rehabilitating the traders whose shops have been sealed during the ongoing drive by the Corporation. The land, they said, could also be utilised for constructing community halls to fulfil the need for places to hold social functions after the sealing of banquet halls the city.
Accordingly, Standing Committee Chairman Jai Kishen Sharma had last week directed the commissioner to submit a report of the total MCD land at present under encroachment at today's meeting.
