No play on 4th day, Delhi earn 2 points from match against UP
New Delhi, Dec 4 (UNI) Early morning fog and bad light played spoilsport and not a single ball could be bowled on the final day of the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh tie, even though the hosts earned two points from the Elite Group Ranji Trophy match, thanks to their first innings lead of 12 runs.
In their next Group A matches, Delhi play Baroda and UP meet Karnataka at home.
Delhi had scored 299 all out in their first essay, with Aakash Chopra slamming 150, while Uttar Pradesh fell 12 runs short in reply, despite triple half centuries from Tanmay Srivastav, Praveen Kumar and Piyush Chawla.
It was Ashis Nehra's five-wicket haul which brought the curtains on the UP innings just when the visitors threatened to take a crucial first innings lead.
In the second innings, Delhi were 165 for three at stumps yesterday with Aakash Chopra (68) and Viraat Kohli (13) in the middle.
Chopra was naturally upset after the bad weather denied him another opportunity to make a statement with the bat after the dour Delhi opener was ignored for the Test series against South Africa.
Later, talking to UNI, Chopra said, ''I'm quite disappointed that there was no action on the final day. I was in good nick and wanted to continue from where I had left in the first innings.
''Anyway, there are things which you can't control and I'm looking forward to the next game,'' he said.
Happy to be back from the wilderness and knocking on the Team India door, Chopra said he was happy that his form was being noticed.
''The selectors discussed my name before picking the Test team for South Africa and that's surely a boost for me to know that I'm ver-much in the reckoning.
''Last two seasons, I was putting myself under pressure and that sort of boomeranged. This time, I'm more at ease with myself and not going out every time to score a double century. I'm trying to enjoy my game and would like to continue it like that,'' he added.
