Navy Day celebrated at ENC

Visakhapatnam, Dec 4 (UNI) Indian Navy celebrated 'Navy Day' at the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) headquarters here today.

On this historic-day in 1971, boats of Indian Navy, with powerful missiles, attacked Karachi harbour and the Pakistani ships during the Indo-Pak war, and paved way for India's victory.

The retired Vice-Admiral K A S Z Raju was the Chief Guest at the impressive Navy Day reception. Senior Naval Officiers and civilian dignitaries were also present and greeted Vice-Admiral Arun Kumar Singh, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief ENC.

The Vice-Admiral released a 'Navy Week brochure' on the occasion while personnel of ENC rededicated themselves for the service of the country and protection of the vast maritime boundaries and national assets off the eastern seaboard.

ENC played homage to the service personnel who made supreme sacrifices in various actions, including the 1971 war. A floral wreath was placed by Vice-Admiral at Amar Jawan Joyti at navy war memorial on the Ramakrishna beach road.

In the evening a large number of people witnessed from the beach 14 illuminated naval ships, 22 aircrafts and a submarine at anchorage and enjoyed fireworks display.
