Mizoram civil body demands action against 14 MLA

Aiwazl, Dec 04 (UNI) The society for Social Action (SOS) has urged the Mizoram Assembly speaker to take action against 14 legislators for allegedly misappropriating government funds.

In a memorandum to the speaker Lalchamliana, SOS officials have alleged that all the 14 MLAs have misused the privilege of availing travelling allowance provided to them by the government.

It also stated that many of the MLAs have not yet realised that their conduct was illegal.

The investigation following a media report had revealed that all together 14 legislators of the 40 member house including state's local administration department (LAD) minister H Vanlalauva have claimed false travelling bills between 2003 and 2005.

More than a crore of rupees have been siphoned by the MLAs showing false medical and travel bills, sources added.

Meanwhile the opposition Congress had demanded an independent inquiry into the alleged expenditure incured by the ministers.
