Malayali businessman sets 'thulabharam' record in Guruvayoor

Guruvayoor, Dec 4 (UNI) Setting a 'glittering' record in 'thulabharam,' a Dubai-based Malayali industrialist was weighed against gold valued at Rs 6.93 crore, as an offering to the presiding deity at the famous Lord Sree Krishna Temple here.

Guruvayoor Devaswom officials told UNI P N C Menon, Chairman of Shobha Developers, Bangalore, gave 70 kg of gold for 'thulabharam.' 'It is the biggest gold offering by an individual or institution in the history of the temple. The previous highest was two kg in 1970.' Mr Menon, a native of Palakkad, running a group of institutions in Kerala, Bangalore and Dubai, told reporters the offering was made in fulfilment of a vow. 'My business has reached such heights with the blessings of Lord Krishna and it is my humble gratitude to the Lord.' The 58-year-old devotee, who flew in from Bangalore, brought 70 gold bars weighing one kg each for the offering.
