Lt-Col Jha's body consigned to flames
Bhopal, Dec 4 (UNI) The body of Rashtriya Rifles Lieutenant-Colonel Pankaj Jha, who alleged committed suicide at the 15 Sector RR Headquarters at Mahore in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, was consigned to flames at the local Subhash Nagar cremation ground today.
''Besides family members, Army officers were present,'' the deceased's elder brother Sanjay Jha, who lit the pyre, told UNI. The officer's corpse was conveyed here at about 1830 hrs yesterday by the regular Indian Airlines flight from Delhi.
Though the Army has already ordered an inquiry into the December 1 incident, Mr Jha favours an independent investigation -- by a central agency such as the CBI -- into his sibling's demise.
Headquarters Northern Command Udhampur was the scene of the June 15 demise of Lt Sushmita Chakraborty, who was attached to the Army Services Corps 5071 Battalion and also hailed from this city.
One difference between the two cases is that Lt-Col Jha's wooden coffin was draped with the proud Tricolour at the Raja Bhoj Airport but Lt Chakraborty's coffin had not been accorded this honour.
