Lok Sabha by-polls pass off peacefully
Hyderabad, Dec 04 (UNI) The by-polls to the Karimnagar and Bobbili parliamentary constituencies passed off peacefully today, barring minor incidents, with the former recording 57.5 per cent voting and the latter a high of 71.14 per cent.
While the Bobbili re-poll was caused by the death of TDP sitting MP K Paidytalli Naidu, the Karimnagar election was caused by the resignation of TRS Chief and former Union Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao.
Mr Rao, who along with his colleague A Narendra quit the Union Cabinet, resigned his Lok Sabha seat saying the ensuing by-poll would be a referendum on carving out Telengana from Andhra Pradesh.
Mr Rao is the TRS candidate while the Congress fielded its Jagityal MLA T Jeevan Reddy. The TDP and BJP fielded their former MPs L Ramana and Ch Vidyasagar Rao respectively.
In Bobbili, the TDP fielded the deceased MP's son Appla Naidu, while the Congress put up B Jhansi, wife of state Marketing Minister B Satyanarayana. The BJP has fielded Sanyasi Raju.
The polls were held using electronic voting machines and the results are expected in two days.
