'Islamic rebels in Bangla areas across Mizoram'
Aizawl, Dec 04: The Border Security Force (BSF) does not rule out the possibility of Islamic extremists' presence in Bangladeshi areas across Mizoram.
''There is possibilty of infiltration along these areas,''DIG M A Khan told mediapersons today.
To negate this threat, the Union Home Ministry has been building fences, along Mizoram's 337 porous border with Bangladesh, he said adding already about 198 km been fenced.
''To curb illegal activities, especially by the extremists, the BSF is conducting 24-hour patrol in the area and taken up a border management programme,'' Mr Khan said.
Though the officer could not furnish any record about the influx, he was sure that ''the ISI would try to push these elements'' into the Indian territory.
Mr Khan also pointed out that the border areas, especially in the Mizoram areas, are inhabited by Chakmas population in both the countries.
The BSF said, ''The Chakmas are loyal to India and can help out border sentries track down the infiltrators.''
