Intervene and undo sale of UNI: MP asks govt

New Delhi, Dec 4 (UNI) Mr Mohan Singh (SP) today asked the Centre to intervene and have the sale of United News of India (UNI) to a media house cancelled.

Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha during zero hour, the Samajwadi Party leader said the purchase of UNI by the corporate house would affect the agency's autonomy and the flow of news to rural areas.

He expressed concern over the disciplinary action being taken by the UNI management against the employees who had launched an agitation.

The media house which had bought UNI had acquired the agency's property worth ''millions of dollars,'' Mr Mohan Singh said.

The government's intervention was necessary to ensure the independent and autonomous character of the agency, he said.
