Indo-US conference on IT uses and needs for disabled people

Bangalore, Dec 4 (UNI) A two day international conference on "Information Technology uses and needs for children and adults with disabilities" will begin here on December 5.

Disclosing this to newsmen here National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped Director L Govinda Rao said the conference would mainly focus on models of IT applications for people with disabilities, resources and practices in IT for people with disabilities in India and the US. Practices in corporate development for IT and disability, IT in education and vocational training for persons with disabilities.

He said though a considerable amount of changes due to technological advances was visible in the day-to-day life of the people with disabilities, there was a need to have a common platform where all the stakeholders in the area including the IT industry, professionals in the field of disabilities and organisations involved in the educational and vocational aspects of persons with disabilities and government officials to meet and exchange ideas.

He said Union Social Justice and Empowerment Secretary Veena Chhotray would inaugurate the conference to be attended by over 120 delegates including 20 from the United States.
